Abstract

The purpose of this study is to present basic data for the direction establishment upon dental health of 12-year-old children and job of its educator by surveying epidemiologically on the dental caries prevalence. The researcher recruited 394 sixth grade aged 12 years among primary school students(Male : 212, Female : 182) who live in chinju, Korea from May 15 to May 19, 2000 using dental caries survey form.
The results were as follows.

1. The prevalence of dental caries was 90.57% in male, 89.01% in female, and 89.85% in both sexes.
2. DMFT rate was 18.5211.70% in male, 18.9410.77% in female.
3. DMFT index was 4.343.01 in male, 4.762.85 in female.
4. DT rate was 63.1738.34% in male, 68.2733.13% in female.
FT rate was 36.6838.41% in male, 31.7333.13% in female.
5. DT index was 2.812.85 in male, 3.262.48 in female.
FT index was 1.511.88 in male, 1.511.95 in female.
6. DMFT rate & index were higher in maxillary than in mandibulary. But, it was statistically not significant.
7. Anterior DMFT rate & index were 3.097.14%, 0.360.83 in male, 2.765.69%, 0.330.68 in female.
It was higher in male, statistically significant(p < 0.01).
8. Posterior DMFT rate & index were 34.262058%, 3.982.64 in male, 33.9818.71%, 4.432.61 in female.
It was statistically not significant.
9. DMFT rate & index were higher in molar teeth than in premolar teeth But, it was statistically not significant.
